I nominate and appoint my daughter, Rhesa Gaye (Gilliland) Janice to be Administrator of this, my Last Will and Testament, hereby authorizing and empowering said administrator to compound, compromise, and settle and adjust all claims and demands which may be due to my estate; and to execute, acknowledge and deliver deeds or other proper instruments of conveyance thereof to the proper individuals, all without license or leave of court. I request that no bond be require of my said Administrator.
In the event my Administrator, does not survive me, shall be incapable of serving me as Administrator, shall elect not so to serve, or for any reason is unable to complete the administration of my estate (Will). I then appoint Paula Kaye Gilliland as Alternate Administrator, to serve with the same powers aforesaid and also to serve without bond.

Instructions for Rhesa on the division of my personal belongings are as follows: Nothing is to be sold if possible. Waring is to have the orange carnival class bowl and stand and to have first right of refusal for any remaining items from Eldon that remain. Paula is to have the china, crystal, and sterling flatware and maintain the items for her daughter, Valencia. Valencia is to have right of first refusal for my vehicle with Waring having second right of refusal. Rhesa may have my bedroom furniture, the corner china cupboard, and the oak desk. The remaining furniture and belongings may be disseminated as my children decide.

� Eulogy: 129 Eldon Gilliland was born to Ernest L. and Stella Leech Gilliland on July 19, 1920 in Princeton, Kansas. The family later moved into the Humboldt, Nebraska area where Eldon was to receive his public school education through the 12th grade.
Eldon was caught up in World War Two and served in the Army, Engineers 13th Division from 1942 to 1945 and saw action in the Pacific, including the Liberation of Attu in the Alaskan Aleutians, Leyte, Saipan, and the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific.
Eldon returned to the Humboldt area and worked as a farmer for 12 years before moving to David City in 1960 where he worked as a Soil Conservation Technician until his retirement.
Eldon worked as the custodian at St. Luke's United Methodist Church from 1961 until 1989, over 27 years. Eldon was also very active with the volunteer fireman organization, as well as the Boy Scouts, the Senior Center of David City, and Fidelity lodge of David City.
Eldon was married to Charlotte Beth Martin in November 1, 1945 in Kansas City, Kansas and to this marriage was born 4 children.
Eldon passed away after a long illness in David City on Wednesday, November 1, 1989.
Eldon is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Stella, and one brother Coleman.
There is left to mourn 4 children, Warning of Fremont, Nebraska, Cathy - Robert - Weaver of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rhesa Gilliland of New Haven, Conn., and Paula - Lonnie - Hobbs, of Lincoln, Nebraska.
An additional blessing in his life were his two grand children John Mark and Valencia.
Eldon will be missed by a great number of friends and acquaintances.
ECC: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die. A time to plant, and a time to pluck up what was planted. A time to kill, and a time to heal. A time to break down, and a time to build up. A time to weep, and a time to laugh. A time to mourn, and a time to dance. A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together. A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing. A time to seek, and a time to lose. A time to keep, and a time to cast away. A time to rend, and a time to sew. A time to keep silence, and a time to speak. A time to love, and a time to hate. A time for war, and a time for peace.
For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.
Eldon has through every season of his life . . . every time which has been allotted has been experienced. And we recognize that the time of saying good bye has come upon us. I want the family to know that we all recognize how hard this has been on everyone and that no matter how much warning that we might have that it is never enough and that when the last phone call comes that it is still a shock and that we are always left unprepared.
I have known Eldon for only about a year and a half. I have worked along side of him and have called upon him in his home and in the hospital. I know that Eldon suffered but he held up under that strain and kept his sense of humor. That's no easy task but on one of the last lucid days that I remember him having the last image that I have of him was a big smile and a laugh concerning some remark that I made concerning his old job here at the church.
Eldon was also concerned about his family ad how they might react to his last illness. I think it is remarkable that he made so many arrangements before he died for his own funeral and this I believe was to help his family in their decision making. We have had organ solos this morning because Eldon loved organ music and there were many a time over the years when he was off somewhere in the rooms of this church cleaning or picking up or resetting tables and chairs and from the sanctuary there came the notes of the pipe organ while our organist practiced for the Sunday service.
Eldon also attended church until he was not able to do so anymore. Eldon was baptized in the Methodist Church and I believe remained a Methodist all of his life.
Eldon was known as a many interest man. He was active in the Volunteer Fire Department and they are well represented here this morning as well as the Scouts and the Masons who are also represented this morning. Eldon was seen around the Senior Center and was active in its organization. They were of a special benefit to Eldon when he was able to go there for fellowship and a good meal in these past few months.
Eldon had cultivated a love for the out doors and nature. Specifically he loved trees and grew them on his back forty as he lovingly called his property.

Eldon did a lot of planting. He planted trees, and he planted friendships and relationships. Now Eldon would not want me to stretch the truth. He was not perfect. But he was about as perfect as the rest of us. He made this community his home and you his family and friends. This was his church. It was a time of planting. Eldon's life saw a time to be born, a time to plant, times to weep and to laugh, to mourn, to dance, to embrace, times of silence, times to love, and times for war and times for peace. His was a full life also.
All who are led by the spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, Our Father, it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
Eldon suffered with his disease. We often wonder and I am certain that Eldon also wondered at why God would allow a human being to live in pain or to end life in pain. Somehow it seems to reflect upon our concepts of the goodness of God and the theological concern of a heavenly father.
However, we live in a world of opposites and we define one aspect of this life by its opposite. For instance we would not know what love was unless we also knew what hate was. We would not have a concept of what painlessness would be if it were not for the existence of pain. We would not know nor have a word for light were it not for the existence of darkness. We would have no appreciation at all for kindness if we had not known unkindness. We would not even know nor have a word for life if it were not for death. We would not know goodness when we saw it if it were not for the presence of evil in our lives.
So it is with life, death is a necessity, and with health there must also be those times of pain and illness. God in God's wisdom has created a world that we can know and experience. If the problem of pain and sickness and evil and death seem to be insurmountable in this life just think of how senseless it would be without them.
But that life is to come. In fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firest fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.
Eldon as a baptized Christian and a believer has passed from this life to life eternal. In Christ he is made alive in the life to come. That life is not fully understandable to those of us who are left on this earth to live out the rest of our lives without those who have gone before. But we have the assurance that God will take care of us in that life and that a trust in God's love through Christ is all that we ever need. In that trust we know that Eldon has passed from this life of hardship and illness and he has been made whole. The medical people did all that they could to cure Eldon, but in the final analysis they also know that some people must go to heaven to receive their wellness.
Eldon has passed from the sufferings of this present time to the glory that is also to be revealed to us.
